The Little ADAP Pact

A few rules, no paperwork.

Welcome! Before you join ADAP’s private area, we’re proposing a little pact — not a set of condo bylaws, just a few common-sense principles so that everyone feels comfortable here. (A useful clarification: despite its name, ADAP is not a legally registered association — it’s a website run in an associative spirit, without formal structure.)

We know each other by our real names

Here, no aliases, no mystery avatars. You sign up with your first and last name, and that’s what appears everywhere: in exchanges, on outings, in comments. ADAP is a French-speaking platform, developed by a Frenchman based in Portugal — but it’s not reserved for French people: we’re open to anyone who wants to take part in this spirit, whatever their nationality. We own who we are — this isn’t an anonymous forum.

We talk through internal messaging, full stop

ADAP never shares your email address with another member. If you want to exchange messages with someone, the platform’s internal messaging is there for that. We ask you to do the same: no collecting or reusing another member’s contact details outside the platform, even with the best intentions.

We stay courteous, even in disagreement

We can disagree — that’s even healthy. What we won’t tolerate: aggressiveness, harassment, discriminatory remarks, or anything that would make a member feel unwelcome here. If an exchange between members goes in circles without progressing, it’s better to close it than to drag it on indefinitely — ADAP isn’t meant to become a ring for opinion debates between members.

This doesn’t apply to modules like AdapVeille, which document exchanges between citizens and public representatives for the sake of transparency and general interest — that’s not the same exercise as a debate between members.

Finally, ADAP is not a collectively managed space: it’s a platform run by a single team, which sets its rules. If the atmosphere or the way it works doesn’t suit you, you’re free to close your account at any time — no hard feelings, it’s just not the right fit for you. In the event of a serious breach of the rules above, exclusion may be immediate, with no intermediate step.

We contribute in the spirit of ADAP

ADAP exists so that mutual help among expats in Portugal remains free and accessible to everyone, regardless of nationality. Anyone can suggest content, share useful information, organize or join an outing — that’s what keeps the community alive.

A word on future classified ads

The day classified ads (AdapMarket module: search, sale, services) become possible on ADAP, the same logic will apply: good conduct and respect for the law, no sexual content or prostitution, no scams. Common sense, in short — but we’d rather say it clearly than assume it’s shared by everyone.

What we reserve the right to do

Registration is free, but it goes through manual validation on our part, and we reserve the right to refuse or end access, without having to justify it, in accordance with the Portuguese law applicable to the platform. This isn’t about playing police — it’s so that this space remains what it should be: useful, healthy, and free of any commercial ulterior motive.
